Joliet Public Library Giving Tree to support veterans in need

Since 2015, Joliet Public Library has joined with the community to support a local organization with its Giving Tree.Around the end of November, each library branch puts up a tree decorated with ornaments that represent the items an organization needs, and patrons and staff choose items off the tree to donate. Past beneficiaries have included the Spanish Community Center, Will County Humane Society and Will County Children’s Advocacy Center.This year, in honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the library has decided to give back to the people who have helped defend our freedom. The 2026 Giving Tree will benefit the Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County and its mission to support veterans as they transition to civilian life.Navigating the red tape of federal benefits as well as the difficulty of reintegrating into civilian life can be a significant burden for some veterans after living within the structure of the military.“There is a need out there for post-service assistance,” s
